Shelling resumes in New Cyrus March 21, 2107 New Cyrus -- Cyrus's forces have resumed shelling the New Cyrus district, northeast of the Cytadel, believed to be the shelters of Securitarian leaders. The heavy fighting came hours after the interim-President asked the Securitarian Assembly to declare a state of war against Cyrus. The comments from interim-President Woodson followed the steady bombardment of Securitarian insurgents in the poorly regulated part of New Cyrus. Heavy artillery fire intensified on Sunday shortly before noon—soon after a short deadline for cytizens to flee the area of fighting. Cyrus troops shelled the high-rises of Viking Street and Lowjack Drive, just eight city blocks (approximately one kilometer) from the City border.
In the same area, a few blocks northeast of the Cytadel, Cyrus on Saturday hit “selective” targets, unleashing laser-targeted rockets from atmorines and firing cannon and grenades at Securitarian command posts and sniper nests. Woodson's announcement came after the assassination of Securitarian president Kinley McWilson by self-proclaimed hero of Cyrus, Calvin Timothy Lees. Lees has no known associations with the Cyrus Corporation nor is he an official cytizen. Earlier on Sunday, Cyrus media broadcast at five-minute intervals a corporate appeal for hundreds of residents of seven besieged high-rises in the northern New Cyrus region to evacuate and leave the area of fighting. At the Cytadel, Greta Van Astrid, a spokeswoman for the the High Commissioner for the Cyrus Commission for Refugees, said that more than 100 people had fled from New Cyrus to Kosoville in the last few days.
